From a boy who has never seen falling snow...

Living in a tropical country all my life, I have always dreamed of spending Christmas in a snowy country. I have always imagined how cool it would be to watch snowflakes fall (instead of rain!), play in the snow, skate in a real frozen lake, do winter sports, and crash sleds into snowmen. I hope my art takes me there someday. In the meantime, I'm letting my furry friends enjoy it.

From a boy who has never experienced these...Merry Christmas to all!

My Children's book publications of 2013

As the year is about to end, I thought it'd be nice to look back at all the books I did for the year. It was a blast working with everyone in the industry this year. To the writers and publishers, thank you!

Ma-Me- Mi- Mumu!
written and illustrated by Jomike Tejido (Ilaw ng Tahanan 2013)

My first horror book that is fit for young readers' non-commercial, non-dental-threatening halloween delight! View its trailer in my youtube channel, Jomike Tejido. Or click this link:

Foldabots Toybook Vol.6
written and illustrated by Jomike Tejido (Summit Media 2013)

Now on its 6th awesome papercrafting year! If you are between 7-12 years old and haven't heard of this series, then head over to my website: http://www.jmtejido.com/foldabots.html to learn more about my Foldabots universe. Better yet, start your Foldabots cardboard robot collection now by grabbing a copy of K-Zone Magazine (Philippines) , to get the latest robot for this month! I Am A Good Filipino
Written and sung  by Noel Cabangon
Painted on mats by Jomike Tejido (Lampara Books 2013)

It was an honor to work with this living Filipino folk singer -songwriter - legend. Aside from its timeless appeal, it is also a hardbound limited- edition book. Not a common production practice here in Manila. Also available in paperback. More about my mat paintings at www.jmtejido.com

Paolo's Magic
Written by Glenda "Bong" Oris
Illustrated by  Jomike Tejido (Lampara Books 2013)

A story about a toddler's adventure in a barbershop. Something most kids and parents can relate to. Happy to do my anthropomorphic characters for the first time to surprise both publisher and writer. I am glad both parties agreed with my dog characters!

My Daddy, My One and Only
Written by Zarah Gagatiga (www.lovealibrarian.blogspot.com)
Illustrated by  Jomike Tejido (Lampara Books 2013)

A touching story about a kid's good relationship with his dad. This is what happy childhoods are made of. Happy to do my anthropomorphic characters for the second (literally, consecutive) time to surprise both publisher and writer. I am glad both parties agreed with my ellies! (i love ellies!)

Gideon and God's 300
Written by Jojie Wong
Illustrated by  Jomike Tejido (Hiyas Books 2013)

My first old testament-themed book, which was reminiscent of my high school religion classes. It was nice to draw war scenes for a change.

I Know Where My Heart Is
Written by Joaquin De Guzman
Illustrated by  Jomike Tejido (Bookmark Inc. 2013)

Set in the mid 90's, this is a heroic story of a selfless Filipino priest who died to save an entire class of students. The story was written by a high school student from the Ateneo De Manila. More info in the school's website: http://www.admu.edu.ph/tags/i-know-where-my-heart

My Father, The Shape Shifter
Written by Ma. Cecilia Sevilla
Illustrated by  Jomike Tejido (Lampara Books 2013)

A reality-based story of a father working away from home as a seaman.

Last Batch of School Visits for Children's book month 2013

As Children's book month came to a close, I did my last round of two schools in Manila. First stop was with the Jr. and Sr. kinder levels at Poveda College, where the kids were dressed up as their favorite children's book character. Amidst all the Disney princesses, i was glad to see one of them dressed as Mia of my book, The Amazing Hat (Adarna House 2003):

Special thanks to Powerbooks for setting up an awesome display of my books for the past 13 years in the industry. Signed over a hundred books in this school!

Next stop was at Xavier School, San Juan. With an older age range of grades 5 to 6, the topic was Foldabots and how I am inspired to create the characters. (More info on Foldabots at www.jmtejido.com/foldabots.htm)

Thank you to Powerbooks, Xavier school and Poveda College for the fun day.
